Ten-Year Sentence Confirmed for Foreign Fighter Accused of Torturing a 14-Year-Old. The Court of Appeal has upheld the ten-year prison sentence for Samir Bougana, a Tunisian originally from Gavardo, who was found guilty of aggravated kidnapping motivated by racial hatred and terrorism. The charges relate to an incident that took place in 2014 in Syria, where Bougana allegedly tortured a 14-year-old Yazidi Kurdish boy, subjecting him to physical violence including electric shocks, in an attempt to force him to join ISIS.
Bougana, who had previously been sentenced to four years for recruitment for terrorist purposes, was arrested in 2019 thanks to the intervention of the Digos of Brescia and the Central Directorate of Prevention Police. During the appeal hearing, the defendant and his lawyer once again denied the accusations against him.
