The National Commissioner for Emergency Interventions related to the water scarcity phenomenon, Nicola Dell’Acqua, has approved the funding for the first phase of the Valtenesi Aqueduct. The contribution amounts to over 28 million euros and is part of a larger plan that concerns the entire national territory.
The intervention is necessary due to the increasingly frequent periods of drought and aims to improve and streamline the water supply and quality distributed to the municipalities of Valtenesi and the adjacent areas of upper Garda Bresciano. Among the affected municipalities are Salò, San Felice del Benaco, Puegnago del Garda, Polpenazze del Garda, Manerba del Garda, Soiano del Lago, Moniga del Garda, Padenghe sul Garda, and Calvagese della Riviera.
The first phase includes the enhancement of the lake intake in the Pisenze area of Manerba del Garda, the construction of the water conveyance pipes from the lake intake to San Felice del Benaco, and the establishment of a water treatment plant in the municipality of Manerba del Garda. This intervention is part of the 127 prioritized projects identified throughout Italy, totaling 3.67 billion euros.
Now it is up to the Ministry of Infrastructure to definitively finance the 2024 Extraordinary Plan, which also includes this project.
