The traditional “blessing of the boatmen” will return to Riva del Garda on Saturday, April 20th. The archpriest of the city, Father Dario Silvello, will bless the boats off the chapel of Madonna.
The gathering of the boats is scheduled for 9:30 am at the Catena port, from where a procession will depart towards the chapel of Madonna, at the entrance of the Gulf of Riva del Garda.
The ceremony will begin with greetings from the president of the Friends of Tirlindana Association, Albano Candolfo, and Mayor Cristina Santi. Subsequently, Father Dario will impart the blessing to the boatmen. As tradition dictates, the event will conclude with the recitation of the poem “La Madonina” by Giacomo Floriani, performed by Professor Livio Parisi.
To allow everyone to witness the ceremony on the lake, the Furletti company (at the Punta Lido beach) and Cattoni (at the Brolio park) will provide their pedal boats free of charge. There will also be places available on the fishermen’s boats. All those who sail for work or pleasure are invited to participate.
The initiative is organized by the Friends of Tirlindana in collaboration with the municipal administration and with the support of the voluntary firefighters of Riva del Garda. The duration of the event is approximately one and a half hours.
