The Strada della Forra, one of the most scenic routes around Lake Garda, remains closed due to a landslide that occurred on December 16th. The Province of Brescia has ruled out the possibility of reopening the road at the moment, as studies conducted by geologists and engineers have confirmed a high risk and a lack of warning signs in the rockslides.
The situation was discussed in a meeting between the provincial president Moraschini, the Councilor responsible for Roads Paolo Fontana, the director of the Roads and Transport Sector Pierpaola Archini, the official Enrica Savoldi, and the mayor of Tremosine Battista Girardi, along with specialized technicians. According to the Province of Brescia, the studies have confirmed that there is still a dangerous and high-risk condition on the road.
One of the main reasons why reopening the Strada della Forra is not possible is due to the fragility of the tunnel shoulder. Experts have highlighted that the covering of the shoulder has decreased from 8 meters to just 1 meter, making this part of the road insufficiently safe.
To evaluate possible alternative designs and ensure maximum safety for future road users, further monitoring and studies will be carried out. A new update on the situation is expected in mid-June.
