The XVII edition of the Garda Film Festival is preparing to take place at Lake Garda, celebrating cinema through a series of cultural events from June to November 2024. The festival will open on Saturday, June 1st, at the Raffaele Cominelli Foundation in San Felice del Benaco, paying homage to the diversity of cinematic languages. The artistic director, Veronica Maffizzoli, emphasized how the festival renews itself every year to offer the public a wide range of cultural proposals.
The festival will start in San Felice del Benaco, its birthplace, and then move to the Cinema Nuovo Eden in Brescia – Brescia Musei Foundation. This stage confirms a long-standing collaboration. The climax of the festival will take place in the beautiful setting of the Vittoriale degli Italiani from October 30th to November 2nd. During these days, the competition films and those in the inclusion section will be screened, accompanied by meetings with the authors, cine-brunches, and cine-aperitifs.
The program is rich in events: special screenings, meetings with film critics and authors, workshops, masterclasses, soundtracks, and exhibitions. The competition announcement is already available on the festival’s official website.
This year, the Garda Film Festival pays tribute to Marlon Brando on the centenary of his birth. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, one hundred years ago, Brando left an indelible mark on the history of cinema with unforgettable performances. From his debut in “A Streetcar Named Desire” to his iconic roles in “The Godfather” and “Apocalypse Now,” the actor showcased his versatility and extraordinary talent.
A selection of his most significant films will be presented during the festival, curated by Emanuela Martini and Veronica Maffizzoli. This tribute will allow the audience to rediscover the actor’s versatility and extraordinary talent.
The organization of the film festival has enthusiastically unveiled the new visual identity of the event. The redesigned design maintains the historical symbols associated with Lake Garda: the fish represents the territorial bond, while the eye symbolizes an open vision towards the future of cinema. The color palette continues to use dynamic red contrasted with elegant black, while an updated typography improves readability and visual impact on different platforms.
This new identity is not only aesthetic but also reflects the festival’s ongoing commitment to being at the forefront of the film world.
On the occasion of Marlon Brando’s centenary, the official image of the XVII edition captures the actor’s magnetic gaze in different moments of his career. The graphic project divides the poster into two sections representing the two main seasons of the event: summer and autumn.
The red-orange and blue-green colors respectively symbolize summer energy and autumnal reflectiveness. The Brevier font adds modernity with its compact sans-serif design that emphasizes information with clarity and elegance. This composition expresses the duality of the festival while simultaneously celebrating Marlon Brando’s cinematic legacy.
