Alessandro Galletta appeared yesterday before the Court of Assizes for the first hearing of the trial in which he is accused of the voluntary homicide of Carlo Mortilli, which occurred 27 years ago in the parking lot of the West Garda Hotel in Padenghe. The victim, a high-end watch dealer, was killed during a robbery. Previous investigations had already led to the conviction of Marcello Fortugno and Fabio Cosoleto. The recent breakthrough in the case came through the comparison of genetic traces, which linked Galletta to the crime.
During the hearing, Galletta spontaneously declared his innocence regarding the charges of robbery and murder, admitting, however, to reckless behavior in his youth. His defense attorneys requested the exclusion from the case file of the note from the Carabinieri Ris in Parma that highlighted the DNA match, but the court rejected this request. The next hearing is scheduled for September 12th.
