On Sunday, May 26th, the second vintage motorcycle parade took place in Lonato, organized by the group “Tirom fora le moto vece de Lunà”. This group was created by a group of friends, including Paolo Grippa and Stefano Binatti, with the support of the Vespa Club Sirmione and other friends who joined over time.
Initially, Stefano and Paolo displayed the motorcycles at the agricultural fair in Lonato, where the exhibition was static and held twice a year. Later, they decided to organize a parade. The first one took place last year, starting from the civic tower in Piazza Matteotti, with a route of about an hour and a half and the participation of 89 vintage and modern motorcycles, including Moto Guzzi, Morini, Vespas, Ciao, and APE.
This year, the second parade was organized with greater care. The event started in Piazza Matteotti with the official stamping of the motorcycles, assigning each one a starting number and a race package containing historical information and a map of Lonato. The parade had the participation of 130 motorcycles and followed a 40 km route, lasting two and a half hours.
The route touched various locations: Lonato, Desenzano, Lungolago Vo, Via Catullo, Via Gramsci, Borgo Macchetto, Pozzolengo, Vaccarolo, Quattro Camini, Solferino, and Cantina Perla del Garda. At the end of the tour, the participants enjoyed a convivial lunch at the winery, with the presence of 250 people. The Prandini family, owners of the winery, were particularly thanked for their availability and support.
The proceeds from the event, one thousand euros, were donated to the Susan G. Komen Lombardia Committee in Brescia, an association that fights against breast cancer. The president of the association, Alessandra Huscher, was also present at the event, and a new collaboration for future events was initiated. In total, 35 volunteers contributed to the organization of the event, including those who followed the tour and those who prepared the food.
The Councilor for Ecology, Christian Simonetti, expressed special thanks to Cinzia Simioni, president of the Polisportiva of Lonato, for the bureaucratic support. In addition, Angela Cometti was mentioned for the permanent exhibition of vintage motorcycles inside the Cantina Perla del Garda, which includes valuable pieces such as the 1927 Ultima Lian motorcycle and a 1918 Evans moped.
The group “Tirom fora le moto vece de Lunà” will meet on June 23rd for the first “San Giovanni in moto”, in collaboration with the parish of Lonato and the municipality, with a tour of the morainic hills and an aperitif at Parco Le Pozze, coinciding with the festival of the patron saint, San Giovanni Battista.
