The Goletta dei Laghi of Legambiente has revealed that five out of six samples taken on the Lombard shore of Lake Garda are “heavily polluted”. Microbiological analysis has shown contamination levels exceeding the limits at the mouth of the canal in Salò, the mouth of the stream in Padenghe sul Garda, the mouth of Rio Lefà in Toscolano Maderno, the Oasi San Francesco del Garda in Desenzano del Garda, and the mouth of the stream in Santa Maria di Lugana in Sirmione. Only Rio Lefà has shown a stable situation compared to 2023, while the other locations have seen a deterioration.
Elena Ferrario, vice president of Legambiente Lombardia, emphasized that the Goletta dei Laghi analysis does not certify the bathing suitability but is crucial in identifying untreated water that flows into the lake. The high anthropic pressure due to urbanization and the millions of seasonal tourists accentuates the importance of water quality. After monitoring Lake Garda, Legambiente will also extend its analysis to Lake Iseo.
