Amélie Resch, a 22-year-old young woman from South Tyrol, died on September 16, 2023 in a road accident in San Felice del Benaco while riding on a scooter driven by a 32-year-old friend from Vipiteno. The friend recently reached a plea bargain for a two-year suspended sentence for vehicular manslaughter. Initially, the Brescia Prosecutor’s Office had charged him with the aggravating factor of violating the Highway Code, but this accusation was modified after the defense consultants demonstrated that there had been no crossing of the opposite lane at the time of impact.
The case has attracted particular attention as the defense argued that the accident could have been avoided through a last-minute corrective maneuver. Lawyers Nicola Nettis and Ernest Cuccarollo emphasized that this was a theoretical projection rather than an accomplished fact. The verdict represents a legal closure for a tragic event that deeply affected the communities involved.
