The environmental committees of the Garda Protection Coordination have filed a new complaint with the regional prosecutor’s office in Trento regarding the high costs of the Garda Cycle Path. According to a recent report by the Court of Auditors, the cycle path, currently under construction between Riva and Limone, is the most expensive in Italy, costing 1,567,000 euros per kilometer, significantly higher than other cycle paths such as the one in the Sardinia Region, which costs 250,000 euros per kilometer.
The environmentalists also denounce the environmental impact and hydrogeological risks associated with the project, as well as the lack of an Environmental Impact Assessment. Despite repeated reports, the prosecutor’s office has not yet made an official statement on the case. The committees now intend to file further complaints to update the data on landslides and the increase in costs, also urging the intervention of the Section for Autonomies of the Court of Auditors in Rome regarding the regional and provincial public funding involved in the project.
