In the afternoon today, the Mayor of Lonato, Roberto Tardani, along with the Head of the Public Works Office and the Commander of the Local Police Force, visited the construction site on Via Gerardi. This inspection marks the reopening of the first section of the road, which connects Corso G. Garibaldi to the intersection with Via Zambelli.
Nearly a year after the start of the works, officially initiated on August 7, 2023, with Local Police Ordinance No. 180, the redevelopment works have been partially completed. The underground utilities network has been redone and the porphyry pavement has been laid, allowing both vehicular and pedestrian access up to the intersection with Via Zambelli.
Mayor Tardani stated, “This stage of the construction is crucial for us. Allowing the partial reopening of the road is certainly reassuring, as it shows that the works are progressing according to the initially agreed upon schedule.” He also emphasized how this progress will make it easier to return to Desenzano and provide easier access to the commercial activities in the area.
Despite the partial completion of the works, some finishing touches remain to be completed in the first section: new public lighting, concrete seating, landscaping, bollards, and irrigation systems. However, the necessary safety conditions for reopening have been verified.
According to Local Police Ordinance No. 210 of July 10, 2024, from this evening until July 31, it will be possible to travel on the reopened section of Via Gerardi in one direction for vehicles coming from Corso G. Garibaldi. There will be a no-parking zone on the right side of the affected portion.
The second section of the road (from the intersection with Via Zambelli to Via Antiche Mura) remains closed to traffic as it is still being renovated. The restoration of traffic is expected by the end of August. Pedestrian access on both sides of the roadway will always be guaranteed.
Until the completion of the works, the traffic arrangement requested by the Association of Merchants, which allows vehicles coming from Via Antiche Mura to continue straight on Via Girelli, will be maintained.
