In the trial for the murder of Yana Malaiko, experts provided chilling details in court, describing the violence with which the young woman was beaten. The event took place in Mantova on the night of January 20th last year, when Dumitru Stratan, 34 years old, allegedly brutally assaulted his ex-girlfriend in an apartment on piazzale Resistenza. The defense is trying to prove that Stratan was not aware of his actions due to the use of cocaine and that Yana may have only been knocked unconscious before being locked in a suitcase.
Forensic criminologist Gianni Spoletti emphasized the ferocity of the attack and the victim’s attempts to defend herself and escape, as evidenced by the blood splatters found in the room. The defense lawyers are focusing on the possibility that the defendant did not premeditate the murder, thus trying to avoid the aggravating factor of premeditation and a possible life sentence. The trial will continue on September 12th with further key testimonies.
