The Beach of the Muses in Sirmione is set to host a prestigious musical event. On Sunday, July 21, at 9:00 PM, the penultimate concert of the Garda Lake Music Festival 2024 will take place, featuring the Milanese orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali and the young conductor Nicolò Jacopo Suppa.
Concert Program
The concert promises a high-level repertoire, presenting three classical works that have marked the history of music. The program will include the Overture from the opera “Don Giovanni” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the Overture from “The Hebrides” by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, and the Symphony No. 4 by Ludwig van Beethoven. Although the latter is not among the most famous of the German composer’s works, it is considered a fresh and refined composition, perfect for a summer evening dedicated to art music.
The Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali
Founded in November 1945, the orchestra aimed to create a chamber ensemble with a solid classical repertoire while remaining open to contemporary music. From its inception, it has significantly contributed to the dissemination of music by major 20th-century composers in Italy, especially those censored during the fascist regime.
Today, I Pomeriggi Musicali boasts a vast repertoire that spans from the Baroque period to early Romanticism, as well as modern and contemporary works. Renowned artists such as Honegger, Hindemith, and Penderecki have conducted their works with this orchestra, which has also helped to bring many young musical talents to the forefront. Currently, the principal conductors are James Feddeck and Alessandro Cadario.
The orchestra primarily performs in Milan and the surrounding Lombardy region and is regularly invited to participate in Italian symphonic seasons, in addition to performing in important concert halls across Europe. In 2020, it received the Abbiati Prize for the concert that marked the post-lockdown reopening.
Nicolò Jacopo Suppa: The Conductor
Nicolò Jacopo Suppa stands out for his diverse musical training. He has worked as an assistant to Daniele Gatti at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and honed his skills at the Chigiana Academy in Siena under the guidance of renowned masters. He has conducted several prestigious orchestras and has been awarded in international competitions.
In the coming months, he will again conduct orchestras such as the Orchestra Fondazione Arena di Verona and I Pomeriggi Musicali, in addition to debuting with the Orchestra of the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari.
