Recently, the Ipsos company announced the launch of a study in collaboration with various academic institutions to examine the living conditions of people over 50 in Riva del Garda. This research is part of the tenth wave of the Share (Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe) initiative, a significant European project aimed at collecting meaningful data on the aging process.
Objectives and Collaborations
Ipsos, a renowned firm specializing in market research and opinion analysis, is collaborating with the University of Padua and the Munich Center for the Economics of Aging, part of the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy. This synergy enables effective execution of the study, which draws inspiration from established models such as the U.S. Health and Retirement Study (HRS) and the U.K. English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA).
History and Relevance of the Survey
The Share survey is currently in its tenth edition and involves a total of 28 European nations, a significant expansion from the original eleven participating countries in 2004. Supported by the European Union, this research is crucial for understanding the dynamics related to the aging of the European population, providing valuable insights to improve healthcare services and socio-economic conditions both in Italy and across Europe.
Research Methodology
In Italy, the study sample will include approximately 4,000 individuals, selected to represent the population over 50. Interviews will be conducted using the CAPI (Computer Aided Personal Interview) methodology, ensuring a direct and accurate approach to data collection. The aspects analyzed will include variables related to physical and mental health, risk behaviors, economic situation, and social relationships.
Analyzed Variables
The information collected will cover various areas:
- Health: perceived health status, physical and cognitive functionality.
- Psychological Aspects: psychological well-being and personal satisfaction.
- Economy: current employment, post-retirement job opportunities, sources of income.
- Social Interaction: family assistance, economic transfers among family members, and volunteer activities.
