Until November 3rd, the Scaliger Castle in Malcesine is hosting “My Stones Are Kites,” an exhibition by Iranian artist Bahar Heidarzade. Curated by Marina Pizziolo and Romano Ravasio and organized by the Municipality of Malcesine, the show addresses the theme of gender violence through installations that symbolize the weight of memories, represented by papier-mâché stones made from newspaper pages containing unsettling news. The heart of the exhibition is a large immersive installation in the Sala Labia, where a video portrays the artist crushed by an enormous stone.
Heidarzade, who was forced to leave Iran due to the repression of women’s freedoms, uses her art to raise awareness on this crucial issue. Curator Pizziolo emphasizes the importance of listening to women’s stories before they become desperate cries, urging a transformation of pain into hope. The exhibition also features artistic interventions outside the castle that draw attention to the message of the show.
