On Friday, November 22, 2024, the City of Lonato del Garda was awarded the title of “Community of WELL-BEING” during the 9th edition of the Cresco Award – Sustainable Cities, held at the Lingotto Congress Center in Turin. This recognition, promoted by the Sodalitas Foundation with the support of ANCI, honors the commitment of Italian municipalities to urban sustainability and sustainable development, in line with the goals of the UN’s 2030 Agenda. Lonato participated in the contest by presenting three significant projects: Green Park, dedicated to promoting sports activities; Active Citizenship Pacts, focused on the care of common goods; and Fuori Onda, a youth space aimed at addressing youth distress.
The Municipality emphasized the importance of these initiatives in fostering social cohesion and providing support to families affected by the economic impacts of the pandemic. Thanks to a strong sense of community and the activation of free services for citizens, Lonato actively involved 54 volunteers in various activities, including the redistribution of food surpluses and support for young people. The city stood out among 105 participating entities, receiving an award from the Feralpi Group, which further highlights the local commitment to a more cohesive and sustainable community. Mayor Roberto Tardani expressed gratitude for the recognition, underscoring the importance of synergy between public and private sectors in enhancing social services in the post-pandemic era.
