On Sunday, December 8, 2024, the Church of Ponte San Marco in Calcinato (BS) will serve as the stage for the XXXVII edition of the Winter Concert, a much-anticipated and traditional musical event organized by the Don Esterino Association, presided over by Angelo Damioli, in collaboration with the Municipality of Calcinato. The performance is set to begin at 6:00 PM.
A Program Full of Emotions
This edition of the concert will feature the String Quintet of the Berlin Philharmonic, which will present a varied and engaging program. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy renowned pieces by composers such as L. van Beethoven, Anton Bruckner, Niccolò Paganini, Giacomo Puccini, Giovanni Bottesini, and Pablo De Sarasate.
Musical Awards
During the concert intermission, the “Mauro Ranieri” Award 2024 will be presented to the Brescia conductor Pier Carlo Orizio. This award is dedicated to the memory of the violinist Mauro Ranieri, who passed away prematurely in 1995. Over the years, it has recognized internationally acclaimed artists, including Carlo Maria Giulini in 2003 and Riccardo Muti in 2009.
The Uniqueness of the Quintet
The String Quintet of the Berlin Philharmonic stands out for its unique formation: in addition to the traditional string quartet instruments, it includes a double bass instead of a viola or cello. This choice allows the ensemble to achieve a broader, more symphonic sound while retaining the characteristics of chamber music. Founded through the collaboration of Wolfgang Talirz and Romano Tommasini in 2007, the quintet has quickly gained international recognition with acclaimed concerts around the world.
Support for the Community
The proceeds from the event will be donated to the Raphaël Social Cooperative in Calcinato, thereby supporting significant local initiatives. Admission to the concert is free, providing everyone with the opportunity to participate in this evening dedicated to classical music and solidarity.
