The Garda Lake in winter fills the hotels, offering luxury tourism for Christmas. During this period, five-star hotels are in high demand due to their spa and wellness center offerings. It is estimated that around two million Italians will travel during the Christmas and New Year holidays, utilizing the services of travel agencies. Although bookings are down by 4% compared to last year, the tourism sector’s revenue is expected to grow by 5% in 2024, supported by strong performances at the beginning of the year.
Currently, about 20% of accommodation facilities from Sirmione to Limone are operating along the Garda Riviera, alongside numerous B&Bs and vacation homes. Marco Girardi, president of the Garda Lombardia Tourism Consortium, stated that occupancy rates in open facilities reach 80%, despite this year’s unfavorable Immaculate Conception holiday. Many visitors choose the area for sports activities on safe trails, even at higher altitudes. According to a recent study by the University of Sacro Cuore in Brescia, 77% of summer customers would be willing to return to Garda in winter, highlighting the importance of further developing winter tourism in the region.
