Two Italians, aged 26 and 30, have been arrested for carrying out a series of scams targeting the elderly in nearby provinces, with the first incident occurring in Casaleone on December 4th. The criminals posed as fake lawyers, contacting victims under the pretense of being appointed following the arrest of a family member. In the days that followed, they scammed two more elderly women, aged 72 and 74, respectively in Riva del Garda and Lumezzane.
The investigations conducted by the Carabinieri in Riva led to the identification of the vehicle used by the scammers. During surveillance in the town in the province of Verona where they resided, officers discovered approximately 10,000 euros in cash and 77 pieces of jewelry hidden inside a pair of sneakers. The arrested individuals are now being held at the Montorio Prison in Verona, charged with aggravated fraud, awaiting trial.
