The National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps (CNSAS) celebrates today, December 12, 2024, its 70th anniversary, a milestone that highlights decades of commitment to safety in mountainous and challenging environments. Founded in 1954, the CNSAS has carried out a remarkable 232,551 interventions over the years, rescuing a total of 248,096 people. This extraordinary record not only reflects the intensification of operations but also the technological and organizational evolution of the corps at a national level.
On this significant occasion, the CNSAS will receive the Gold Medal for Civil Merit from the Italian Republic at the Prefecture of Milan, a recognition that attests to the value and sacrifice of its operators. Additionally, on Saturday, December 7, 2024, the Municipality of Belluno awarded honorary citizenship to the CNSAS, symbolizing the unbreakable bond between the Corps and the mountainous territory. A message of congratulations has also been received from Pope Francis, emphasizing appreciation for the work of the CNSAS over the years.
