A meeting requested by the Quaderni Valeggio Territorial Defense Committee with the President of Veneto, Luca Zaia, to discuss the issue of asbestos landfills in groundwater recharge areas ended without any tangible results. In 2022, the Regional Council introduced an exemption allowing such projects in previously protected areas, raising concerns among citizens. In the absence of the Governor, Environment Councillor Gianpaolo Bottacin delegated several officials from the Environmental Directorate and Environmental Assessments to engage with the committee representatives, which led to feelings of bitterness and disappointment among its members.
Although the meeting did not directly involve local politics, the Committee continued to make its voice heard by traveling to Venice to report irregularities in the approval process of the updated Waste Plan from 2022. Regional technicians took note of the issues raised and committed to examining them. The committee reiterated its determination to oppose asbestos landfills in the municipalities of Villafranca and Valeggio sul Mincio and invited supporters to join a Christmas gathering on December 13 on the wooden bridge in Borghetto sul Mincio.
