On January 17, 2025, **Salò** will commemorate the **80th anniversary of Teresio Olivelli’s death**, a prominent figure in the **Italian Resistance**, with an event dedicated to his memory. The gathering, organized by the Salò Alpine Group in collaboration with the Municipal Administration and the Parish, will take place at 8:30 PM in the Sala dei Provveditori. Professor Anselmo Palini will present his book on Olivelli, known for his “Prayer of the Rebel” and for sacrificing his life while defending a fellow inmate in the Hersbruck concentration camp in 1945.
Olivelli, who initially embraced fascism, distanced himself from it after traumatic experiences on the Russian front and became an active supporter of the Resistance among the Green Flames. Arrested in 1944, his selfless behavior in the concentration camps drew the wrath of the kapos, leading to severe mistreatment until his death. Beatified in 2018, he is remembered as a “martyr of charity,” a symbol of dedication to the oppressed and persecuted during one of the darkest periods in Italian history.
