Recently, in the red hall of the Palazzo Scaligero, data regarding wolf predation in the Verona area for 2024 was presented. The meeting was attended by key figures such as the President of the Province, Flavio Pasini, and the Commander of the Provincial Police, Damiano Cappellari. Throughout the year, there were 195 reported incidents of predation, primarily affecting livestock, with a total of 150 sheep and goats, 112 cattle, and 14 equines killed. The most affected areas continue to be Lessinia and Baldo, with a rising incidence of attacks in the plains, involving municipalities such as Buttapietra and Villafranca di Verona.
Commander Cappellari emphasized the importance of securing animals during nighttime hours to prevent further attacks. Additionally, it was highlighted that predation affected as many as 28 municipalities in the Verona area in 2024, marking a historical record. President Pasini called for more effective measures at the European level to manage the presence of wolves and ensure the protection of agricultural land, while regional biologist Ivano Confortini suggested preventive practices to minimize the risks associated with coexisting with these wild animals.
