Salò: Pro-Palestine Banner and Flags Displayed from Window, Intervention by Carabinieri A controversial incident has drawn attention in Salò, where director and photographer Giulio Tonincelli displayed a large banner reading “Free Palestine” along with two Palestinian flags from his residence on Via Vittorio Emanuele II. This initiative dates back to 2018, following a visit to the Middle East that left a profound impact on him. Despite complaints from some neighbors and the condominium administrator, Tonincelli refused to remove the flags, arguing that there was no prohibition in the condominium regulations.
The situation escalated on December 8, when the Carabinieri arrived at the photographer’s home while he was traveling between Uganda and Ethiopia. The officers informed Tonincelli’s parents of their intention to seize the banner, but when asked for clarification regarding the legality of their actions, they did not provide clear answers. Ultimately, the Carabinieri left the apartment without removing the disputed banner. “This gives me the strength to continue raising the flag,” Tonincelli stated, emphasizing his commitment to denounce the atrocities suffered by the Palestinian people.
