The wastewater treatment plant for Lake Garda will be built in Lonato del Garda, as confirmed during the assembly of the Garda Community held on February 1 in Mantua. President Mariastella Gelmini emphasized that, although the design phase is still in its early stages for the Lombardy region, Lonato has been designated as the best “location” for the new facility. Gelmini also assured that there will be financial compensations for the host municipality, highlighting the importance of respecting the environment and keeping costs manageable.
The current situation highlights a gap between the progress on the Brescia side and the developments already underway in Verona, where work on the new collector is already in progress. During the meeting, the need to secure additional resources to support projects in both areas was raised. The Deputy Minister for the Environment, Vannia Gava, reassured participants that the necessary funds will be sourced through the Development and Cohesion Fund, thus allowing essential works for the future of the lake to move forward.
