Two Neapolitan men have been arrested in Peschiera on charges of aggravated fraud, resisting arrest, and causing injuries to a public official after attempting to scam an elderly woman in her eighties. The incident occurred last Thursday, January 30, when the criminals contacted the woman, posing as carabinieri, and informed her that her son was involved in a serious car accident, demanding immediate payment for legal expenses or the handover of valuable items.
The prompt intervention of the Mobile Squad of the Verona police department thwarted the criminal plan: the officers, suspicious of the movements of the two men, tracked their arrival at the elderly woman’s home. During the attempt to collect the loot, a chase ensued in which one of the fraudsters rammed a police car, causing minor injuries to an officer. Ultimately, both criminals were apprehended and arrested; they are currently required to reside in the municipality of Naples, while the stolen goods have been returned to the victim.
