In Lonato del Garda, an environmental protest will take place on Saturday, February 8, at 3 PM in Piazza Martiri della Libertà, against the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant in Esenta. Local committees, including the Tavolo Ambiente Garda and the Presidio 9 Agosto, invite citizens to join in expressing their dissent towards a project that involves discharging wastewater into the Chiese River. The organizers argue that Peschiera is the natural location for the treatment of wastewater from Lake Garda.
During the event, the reasons for opposing the Lonato treatment plant will be presented, and the reactivation of the sublacual system of the Peschiera plant will be proposed as a more sustainable solution. It is emphasized that even with the relocation of the facility, discharges will continue to negatively impact the local environment, raising concerns about the health of the Chiese River and the surrounding ecosystem.
