Two men have been arrested in Peschiera on charges of defrauding an 80-year-old woman by posing as police officers. The victim, led to believe that her son was involved in a serious car accident, was convinced to hand over money and jewelry to avoid an alleged four-year prison sentence. The operation, carried out by the mobile units of Brescia and Verona, allowed authorities to monitor the suspects’ suspicious movements and thwart the scam.
During their attempted escape, the two men rammed a police car, causing minor injuries to an officer. They now face serious charges including aggravated fraud, resisting a public official, and causing injury. Investigations are ongoing to determine if there are any accomplices or other victims of the same scam in the area.
