Ierta Formaini celebrated her centenary last Saturday with a lively gathering at the Villa Giara restaurant, located on the outskirts of Arco. Born in Poia on February 22, 1925, the honoree was surrounded by around ninety people, including her three children, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Among the guests was her dear friend Palmina, who will turn 101 next month. The ceremony was attended by Mayor Cristina Santi, who conveyed the best wishes of the municipal administration along with a bouquet of flowers for Ierta.
Although she lived in Riva del Garda for only a short time, Ierta is fondly remembered by the locals, partly due to the legacy of her daughter Gabriella, a longtime postwoman in the city. Ierta stands out for her incredible vitality: she lives independently in Trento and maintains an active lifestyle despite her advanced age. During the celebration, she shared memories of her childhood marked by war and economic hardships, as well as moments of carefree joy. What is her secret to a long and happy life? “The Lord has granted me grace,” she says with a smile.
