The situation of AC Chievo Verona has further complicated with the request for indictment for bankruptcy fraud against Luca Campedelli, the former sole administrator of the now-bankrupt club. Investigations conducted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Verona and the Provincial Command Financial Police have uncovered a fraudulent system aimed at concealing the club’s financial distress, which allowed for its registration in the league despite the lack of necessary requirements. The accusations also include the management of fictitious capital gains through paper transactions involving players, with operations that allegedly generated over 35 million euros without actual transfers.
Additionally, Campedelli is accused of diverting over 200,000 euros from the club’s coffers for purposes unrelated to business activities and of systematically failing to pay tax and social security obligations from 2014 until the bankruptcy, accumulating debts exceeding 34 million euros. These developments mark a new phase in the investigations into the club, once known as the “Chievo of Miracles” for its historic sporting achievements.
