The Vittoriale degli Italiani is preparing to celebrate an important milestone on March 8, 2025, marking the centenary of the Nave Puglia. This event represents not only a historical commemoration but also an opportunity to reaffirm the mission of the Vittoriale as a dynamic and innovative cultural center. In conjunction with this celebration, four new art and photography exhibitions will be inaugurated.
The Nave Puglia and Its Significance
The Nave Puglia, a symbol of great historical and cultural value, was donated by the Italian Navy to Gabriele D’Annunzio. Positioned on a plateau reminiscent of a ship’s bow, it offers a spectacular view of Lake Garda and the Adriatic Sea. The event’s inauguration will take place in the presence of the Italian Navy and students from the “Francesco Morosini” Naval Military School, who will read the letter from Admiral Thaon di Revel announcing the donation of the ship to the poet.
During the ceremony, the Fanfare of the Northern Navy will also be present, accompanying attendees to the ribbon-cutting for the opening of the new exhibition dedicated to historical artifacts of the Italian Navy at the Onboard Museum: D’Annunzio Marinaio. Here, visitors will have the opportunity to admire historic ship models generously provided by Aimone of Savoy Aosta, further enriching the exhibition related to D’Annunzio’s connection to the sea.
The New Art Exhibitions
In addition to the permanent exhibition on the Nave Puglia, three other exhibitions will be presented to accompany visitors through the spring season.
The first is Riflessi sul Garda, dedicated to the artist Ettore De Conciliis and curated by Lorenzo Zichichi of Cigno Arte under the supervision of Giordano Bruno Guerri. This solo exhibition will explore the artist’s social commitment through works infused with contemporary mysticism.
Another exhibition titled Nel segno, curated by Emanuele Gregolin and Pengpeng Wang at the D’Annunzio Eroe Museum, will showcase works on paper from the 17th to the 21st century. Visitors will discover both ancient and modern artistic testimonies on the theme of the sign in a unique temporal journey.
Finally, the new exhibition space Golfo Nascosto will host the photographic exhibition Gabriele d’Annunzio. An Imaginary Gaze on the Vittoriale. This project invites viewers to imagine what D’Annunzio would be like today as he walks through the streets of the Vittoriale, featuring works by Alberto Crivello, Roberto Antelo, and Ivan Pulpito that reflect on his relationships with the artistic avant-gardes of the twentieth century.
These initiatives aim to renew interest in the local cultural heritage through significant events that celebrate both the past and contemporary artistic expressions.
