The project “Alzheimer Café” has been active for eight years in Lonato del Garda, providing support to patients suffering from dementia and their caregivers. Initiated by the Cooperativa La Rondine in collaboration with the Municipality and the Centro Sociale Aurora, the service takes place every Thursday afternoon at Palazzo Zambelli. The weekly meetings offer an opportunity for interaction and exchange among family members, experts, and volunteers, creating a welcoming environment where participants can feel at ease. In 2024, the project saw the participation of ten families, with activities aimed at promoting socialization and mutual support.
During the sessions, caregivers are guided by a psychologist while their loved ones engage with educators, thereby fostering moments of autonomy for those affected by the disease. The Councillor for Social Services, Nicola Bianchi, emphasized the importance of this space in alleviating the burden of the illness on families. The service is completely free and has already received positive feedback from the families involved. For more information about the “Alzheimer Café,” interested parties can visit the Centro Sociale Aurora every Thursday from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
