Due to transportation delays of the explosives, the blasting on the 45 bis Gardesana Occidentale highway has been postponed to Thursday, March 28, instead of the originally scheduled date of Tuesday, March 26. The operation concerns the area near the northern entrance of the Casagrande tunnel and the starting point of the Ponale trail, where landslides occurred on March 8, partially blocking the road.
To ensure the safety of the workers, the road will be closed to traffic from 9 am to 1 pm during the demolition of the rock blocks. In case of bad weather, the operation will be postponed again.
Once the demolition operations are completed, there will be brief interruptions in traffic until 6 pm, lasting a maximum of 10 minutes. This will allow for the controlled removal of any remaining rock volumes in the area after the explosive charges are detonated.
Following last month’s landslide, the Autonomous Province of Trento, in collaboration with the Municipality of Riva del Garda, the fire brigade, and other competent services, had already carried out a series of targeted interventions to mitigate risks and restore safety in the affected area near Rocchetta. The road was reopened to traffic on March 15. However, in order to ensure the total safety of the area, it is necessary to carry out some explosive blasting of the rocks in the area.
It should be noted that the blasting will take place in the morning and only after the passage of students and workers. Furthermore, it is specified that the demolition work has been scheduled during the week to avoid inconvenience to tourists during the weekend.
