Record Hailstorm of July 2023: Funding to Compensate Citizens for Damages In recent hours, the Lombardy Region has initiated a procedure on the ‘Bandi e Servizi’ platform to allow citizens and businesses to submit reports regarding the expenses incurred following the violent hailstorm that struck the area in July 2023. This meteorological event caused severe hydrogeological instability, flooding, and significant damage to public and private buildings, as well as interruptions to essential services. Following the Region’s request, the Government has declared a state of emergency, enabling individuals and business representatives to report their needs through the regional platform.
The Councillor for Security and Civil Protection, Romano La Russa, announced that in the province of Brescia, there have been 919 requests from citizens and 176 from affected businesses, involving a total of 69 municipalities. The overall funding exceeds 33 million euros from state resources, with a particular focus on 4,742 requests for support from families whose homes have suffered functional damage and 677 applications from businesses forced to halt operations. Citizens can now upload documents for their incurred expenses only if they have already submitted requests for immediate assistance during the assessment phase.
