Recently, industry associations in the hospitality sector, including Confindustria Alberghi, Assohotel, and Federalberghi, have expressed significant concern regarding the proposal to allow municipalities to use the tourist tax to finance current expenses. This discussion arises in a context where the revenue from the tax is expected to reach approximately 1.2 billion euros nationally by 2025. Tourism operators, active in promoting tourism on Lake Garda, emphasize the need for the collected funds to be used exclusively for initiatives that support the sector, as stipulated by the founding law.
The associations have pointed out that businesses have long awaited a proper application of the legislative principles governing the tax, lamenting a misconception of tourism as merely a source of tax revenue. In a joint statement, they called for decisive action from the relevant authorities to ensure targeted investments in the competitiveness and development of the sector, which is essential for the local economy and employment in tourist areas.
