In Limone, Mayor Franceschino Risatti has issued an ordinance that prohibits the sale, purchase, and possession of alcoholic beverages in public areas. This measure, effective from Easter until November 1st, aims to ensure public safety and urban decorum in a location that welcomes over a million tourists each year. Visitors will be allowed to consume wine and beer only within bars and restaurants, while those caught with alcohol in open spaces face fines ranging from 25 to 500 euros.
The municipal administration justifies this measure by its intention to prevent gatherings and disturbances related to the massive influx of tourists, particularly during the summer season. Despite the good intentions behind the ordinance, it remains to be seen how compliance with the new rules will be ensured without generating discontent among visitors. The municipality emphasizes that the indiscriminate consumption of alcoholic beverages can lead to issues related to violations of civic norms and environmental pollution.
