The Municipality of Gargnano has decided to close the Hermitage of San Valentino until April 30th due to necessary construction work to ensure the safety of the area. Specifically, these are measures to mitigate the risk of collapses in the Sisengla area, which involve the construction of structures to secure unstable rock formations.
This closure affects several trails, including the BVG-CAI 265 trail from Pizzo (Pis) to Sasso, the San Valentino via ferrata, and the via ferrata that ascends from the hermitage to connect with CAI 231 (excluding that section).
The decision was made to ensure public safety in the area and will only be in effect for the duration of the construction work. Once the disengagement and safety measures are completed, the Hermitage of San Valentino will be accessible to visitors again.
Therefore, it is advised that anyone planning to visit the Hermitage during this period pays attention to the Municipality’s instructions and respects the pedestrian and vehicular transit ban on the affected trails. Safety is of utmost importance, and these measures are necessary to ensure a secure environment for all visitors.
Hi there
Is the top of the path to the Hermitage still closed?. I hiked all the way up there this week and could not find the final way down from the top to the Hermitage. It looked like the gully just plunged down and was impassable. Is this the case or is it worth me trying again another day?
Thank you,
Sarah FitzGerald.
… this is Sarah FitzGerald again. I walked up to Saint Valentino on Tuesday 7 May. I saw the signs to say it was closed until 30th April and these Orange barriers had been removed. It does all look very dangerous still though at the top as you go through the woods, and there is a big drop off to the right.
