The public alarm system IT-alert, designed to directly inform the population in case of serious emergencies and disasters, has been officially activated in Gardone Riviera. The announcement follows the indications of the General Directorate of Welfare – Prevention of the Lombardy Region and represents a significant step in the management of local emergencies.
Activation Details
With the decree of the Head of the Department of Civil Protection dated January 19, 2024, the Operational Guidelines for the IT-alert system have been approved. These guidelines clearly outline the areas of use and the organization of the Civil Protection System, specifying objectives, message sending methods, responsible parties, areas of competence, traceability, and IT-alert message content.
Functioning of the IT-alert System
The IT-alert message is transmitted to mobile phones present in the geographical area affected by the emergency. Anyone in the area will receive the message on their mobile device, which is turned on and connected to the local cell towers. This alert indicates a situation of potential imminent or ongoing danger and provides instructions on the first actions to take to minimize exposure to risk.
Areas of Interest in Lombardy
In the Lombardy region, the use of the IT-alert system focuses on specific risks such as the collapse of large dams, nuclear accidents or radiological emergencies, and relevant accidents in facilities subject to Legislative Decree June 26, 2015, no.105. These scenarios require a timely and coordinated response from the components of the Civil Protection.
Objectives of the IT-alert System
The introduction of the IT-alert system aims primarily to ensure that the population is quickly informed in case of serious emergencies. This allows citizens to take immediate measures to protect themselves and their loved ones. Local authorities can thus ensure more efficient management of resources during critical situations.
