Yesterday, Wednesday, April 10th, Lake Garda was hit by a day of rain and wind. Despite the high water levels, fortunately, no significant damage was reported. However, sandbags were precautionarily placed along the Salò lakeside promenade.
The cause of these adverse weather conditions was a strong Peler wind that generated very high waves. The lake level measured 137 centimeters on the Peschiera hydrological zero, with a 101.4% fill level. When the level exceeds the critical threshold of 135 cm and there is wind and wave action, there is a risk of flooding in the lower coastal areas.
This is what happened in Salò, where the Local Police closed a section of the lakeside promenade and placed sandbags to protect the walkway from the waves caused by the strong north wind. This wave caused a small overflow on the promenade in Salò. Fortunately, there was no significant damage, but it was preferable to intervene preventively to secure the area during the night.
However, with the return of good weather starting today, the situation can slowly return to normal.
