An alert for the barn owl, a species in severe danger due to the excessive use of rodenticides, was raised during the 14th National Conference on Research in Parks, held at the Parco Natura Viva in Bussolengo. Professor Mauro Delogu emphasized how these poisons intoxicate barn owls, historical allies of agriculture in rodent control, leading to their death. The appeal is directed at authorities to reduce the use of these pesticides and to promote natural solutions such as the installation of nesting boxes in rural buildings.
The conference saw the participation of over 130 experts in the field, discussing threats to biodiversity and presenting 70 scientific contributions. Among the topics addressed were climate change and the conservation of endangered species such as chimpanzees and lemurs. The scientific community proposed strategies to tackle these global challenges and scheduled a new meeting to celebrate the next five years in 2025.
