An alpine accident occurred involving a climber on the slopes of Col di Piombi in Malcesine on the afternoon of Saturday, January 11. The man, a 50-year-old from Mirano, fell several meters while on the climbing route known as Spigolo Bianco due to the detachment of the belay that was securing him to the rock. The fall took place onto an area of vegetation below, which likely softened the impact.
Rescue teams were immediately alerted and reached the climber with the assistance of the Verona Emergenza helicopter, which conducted a winch recovery. The climber sustained a suspected ankle fracture and was transported in yellow code to the hospital in Peschiera. His climbing partner was also rescued during the operation.
