The Ministry of Environment and Energy Security has approved the operational rules of the Energy Services Manager (GSE) for the implementation of the “energy release” mechanism, as outlined in decree 181 of 2023. This measure targets companies that consume large amounts of electricity and wish to develop new production capacity from renewable sources, either through the construction of new plants or by upgrading existing facilities. The approval was formalized with the signature of the Director General of Markets and Energy Infrastructures of the Energy Department of MASE.
The “energy release” system allows companies to anticipate, for a period of three years, a portion of renewable energy and the corresponding guarantees of origin at a price set by the GSE, with an obligation to return the energy over a twenty-year period starting from the actual commissioning of the plants. The next steps include the publication of the call for the allocation of energy quotas and the opening of the portal to gather expressions of interest from companies intending to benefit from this initiative.
