From July 1st to 28th, the “Prospero Marchetti” refuge on Mount Stivo will host the third edition of the “Da Quassù” Artist Residency. This annual event will feature the participation of two selected artists, Francesco Mina and G. Olmo Stuppia, who will live and work at an altitude of 2000 meters for a month, immersed in an isolated and stimulating environment.
The initiative will kick off on Monday, July 1st, with the arrival of the artists at the refuge and will conclude on Sunday, July 28th, with the presentation of the artworks created. The creations will remain on display at the refuge throughout the summer before being transferred to Verona at the Habitat 83 space and later to Arco at Casa Collini during the press conference of the next edition.
Zeno Massignan, president of the In Habitat association that organizes the event, explained how the location of the refuge offers a unique view of the Lombard, Venetian, and Trentino territories. Life in this context requires empathy and mutual respect among residents, given the absence of technological shortcuts or modern comforts. The refuge is almost self-sufficient thanks to the use of photovoltaic panels and rainwater collection.
This experience not only enriches the participants artistically but also provides an opportunity for reflection on environmental sustainability and community life. The councilor for culture, Guido Trebo, emphasized how this initiative represents an important opportunity to discuss current issues related to the natural environment.
Francesco Mina, born in Turin in 1997 but residing in Milan, is a self-taught artist with a scientific background that deeply influences his artistic approach. His research explores the relationship between opposing natural elements such as stone and flesh through graphite drawing techniques and multidisciplinary installations. Over the years, he has participated in numerous collective projects and significant artistic events.
G. Olmo Stuppia (Milan, 1991) is a sculptor known for integrating art, cinema, and spirituality into his works. The founder of the itinerant media agency Cassata Drone Expanded Archive in 2017, his works have been exhibited in prestigious international contexts such as the Venice Biennale in 2022 and 2023. He lives in the Venice Lagoon, where he continues to develop his interdisciplinary artistic practice.
At the conclusion of the press conference held on Thursday, June 20th, at Palazzo dei Panni in Arco, an exhibition dedicated to the works produced during last year’s residency by Chiara Gambirasio and Raffaele Vitto was inaugurated. Visitors can admire these artworks until July 28th at Casa Collini during the same hours as the Segantini civic gallery.
