The Athenaeum of Salò is celebrating its 460th anniversary today, May 20th, at the Salòtto della cultura in via Leonesio. Founded on May 20th, 1564 as the Academy of the “Unanimi” by the poet Giuseppe Milio Voltolina and other young people from Salò, the institution is one of the oldest in the entire Lake Garda area and one of the longest-standing in Lombardy, Veneto, and Trentino. Over the centuries, the Athenaeum has amassed an invaluable cultural heritage, including over 29,000 books, archival documents, and works of art.
Recently, the Athenaeum has renewed its executive positions, with Andrea Crescini appointed as president in place of Professor Elena Ledda. The new executive team includes Barbara Botti, Michela Valotti, Massimo Tedeschi, Fabrizio Galvagni, Maurizio Tira, and Roberto Zanini. In addition to promoting academic studies and publishing the periodical “Memorie,” the Athenaeum continues to enrich itself through donations and significant cultural contributions from its members and supporters.
