On the morning of Friday, July 31st, Lake Garda was hit by a severe weather event that caused significant flooding in several areas. Among the most affected areas were Lugana di Sirmione and Desenzano, where heavy rainfall led to the overflowing of the Ganfo canal.
Images shared in the Facebook group “Sei di Sirmione se…” clearly show how the entire Ghedina street in Lugana was submerged in rainwater and mud, with numerous garages flooded. Residents in the area have expressed concern about the frequency of such events, emphasizing the need for a quick and effective solution.
In response to the critical situation, volunteers from the Basso Garda Civil Protection promptly intervened on-site. They placed sandbags along the banks of the Ganfo canal to contain the overflow and limit the damage. Despite their efforts, the inconvenience for residents was significant.
Desenzano also experienced significant problems due to the bad weather, with flooding reported in the underpasses located on the border with Centenaro and towards San Martino d/B. These episodes have occurred frequently in recent years, highlighting an infrastructure vulnerability that requires attention.
