In Bardolino, the fight against waste abandonment has taken a significant turn thanks to the use of phototraps. Recently, two individuals were fined 600 euros each for leaving bulky waste near the bins.
The cameras captured images of the incidents on Monte Noal and Pigno Street and on Paerno Street. The new commander of the local police, Francesco De Santis, explained that in the first case, a person from Verona dumped several bags from a van registered in his name. In the second incident, a couple abandoned non-hazardous materials such as pieces of wood and garbage bags from a rented van with a foreign license plate.
Decisive Actions Against Waste Abandonment
The municipal administration of Bardolino is determined to combat this uncivilized phenomenon. Daniele Bertasi, the newly elected mayor of the Garda municipality, emphasized that those who do not respect the rules will be severely punished. “Abandoning waste instead of disposing of it properly is an uncivilized and intolerable act,” said Bertasi. To further improve surveillance, the municipality plans to purchase even more effective phototraps.
Enhancing Video Surveillance
In addition to the fight against waste abandonment, Bardolino is also enhancing the overall video surveillance system. The three-year public works program has recently been updated to include a 450,000 euro intervention to install 139 new cameras connected via fiber optic.
These cameras will be integrated with a new license plate reading system connected to the local Carabinieri station, thus improving territory monitoring.
Tangible Results of Surveillance
The work of the local police is not limited to waste abandonment control. Recently, under the guidance of Commander De Santis, the officers made a significant arrest: an intoxicated Polish national was stopped and identified through a photo identification process at the Verona Police Headquarters. The individual was wanted following a missing person report filed by relatives in Poland.
The collaboration between local law enforcement and the municipal administration demonstrates how the use of technology can lead to concrete results in territory management and environmental protection.
