A tragic work accident that occurred in Bedizzole in December 2022 resulted in the death of 62-year-old worker Maurizio Rocchi, who was struck by a load of gravel while inside the bed of a truck. The owner of the Panni quarry, involved in the incident during loading operations with an excavator, has recently been acquitted of the charge of involuntary manslaughter with a not guilty verdict. The circumstances of the accident remain unclear, despite initial investigations suggesting that Rocchi may have been hit by the excavator’s bucket.
During the trial, the prosecutor emphasized the impossibility of definitively clarifying what happened at the time of the tragedy. Colleagues found Rocchi lifeless after noticing his absence. The verdict has raised questions about safety and operational procedures within the quarry, but the hypotheses put forward by experts regarding the specific circumstances of the death have not been confirmed.
