A protest took place in Lonato, where environmental activist Carmine Piccolo cycled a route from Calcinato to Castiglione delle Stiviere, passing through Lonato and Montichiari. His initiative focused on opposing the large wastewater treatment plant in Esenta, a project that raises concerns among citizens regarding potential public health impacts. Piccolo, a city councilor in Ghedi representing the opposition list “Noi con voi per cambiare,” stated: “My goal with this run is to convey a message of health.”
During the demonstration in front of the Lonato City Hall, the activist highlighted the alarming incidence of cancer in the province of Brescia, citing data that places the area among those with the highest rates in Italy. Piccolo emphasized the importance of protecting the territory and urged the community to consider the environmental and health implications associated with the construction of the treatment plant.
