The 2023 Report on the State of Forests in Lombardy reveals that the forest heritage, represented by Boschieforestein, covers over 618,000 hectares, corresponding to a quarter of the regional territory. Contrary to what one might think, this heritage has increased by nearly 45% over the last century, with a total timber volume of 145 million cubic meters. Each year, the forests of Lombardy grow by approximately 3 million cubic meters and are capable of sequestering as much as 103.4 million tons of carbon dioxide.
The report was prepared and published by the Lombardy Region in collaboration with ERSAF – the Regional Agency for Agriculture and Forestry Services. These data highlight the importance of protecting and sustainably managing forests, which are a fundamental resource for the environment and biodiversity of the region.
