A fascinating visual journey through the works of Franco Fontana and other artists is currently taking place at the Santa Giulia Museum in Brescia. The exhibition, originally scheduled to end earlier, has now been extended until August 25th to allow an even wider audience to appreciate the displayed artworks.
The main exhibition is dedicated to the works of renowned photographer Franco Fontana, featuring a collection of 122 images created between 1961 and 2017. Curated by Studio Fontana and promoted by the Fondazione Brescia Musei in collaboration with Skira, this exhibition is part of the seventh edition of the Brescia Photo Festival. Fontana’s photographs are known for their innovative use of color, transforming urban and natural landscapes into abstract works of art.
Fontana captures the essence of places through vivid details: sunny fields, solitary trees, snow-covered mountains, and deserted beaches. In cities, he focuses on elements such as cars, gardens, and street signs, turning them into games of shadows and vibrant colors. His images range from Italian scenes to international contexts, offering a unique vision of the world around us.
Alongside Fontana’s works, the exhibition “Gabriele Micalizzi. Legacy. Materia-Storia-Identità” will be on display until September 1st. This project explores themes related to identity and historical memory through contemporary photography.
Another significant exhibition is dedicated to Maurizio Galimberti, titled “Brescia, Piazza Loggia 1974”. This exhibition commemorates the tragic massacre that took place on May 28th, 1974, in the square of Brescia, an event that deeply marked local history. The artwork culminates in a collage-mosaic where a butterfly symbolizes the search for freedom in the memory of the victims.
Until December 16th, the exhibition “SIAMO TESTIMONI” continues at the Casa della Memoria in the rooms of Palazzo Martinengo delle Palle. Curated by the Fondazione Brescia Musei in collaboration with the Centro Teatrale Bresciano, this exhibition celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the Piazza Loggia massacre through historical testimonies documenting the civic commitment of the Brescia community to keep the memory of past events alive.
The exhibition collects public memories around the names of the victims Giulietta Banzi Bazoli, Livia Bottardi Milani, Clementina Calzari Trebeschi, Euplo Natali, Luigi Pinto, Bartolomeo Talenti, Alberto Trebeschi, and Vittorio Zambarda. Through various artistic and expressive forms, the long and ongoing judicial process related to the events of May 28th, 1974, is narrated.
